The deal saw Wateralia being sold to a combination of the Ambienta Fund IV and the Ambienta Water Pumps continuation vehicle. In the transaction, Moonfare invested alongside industry heavyweights led by Stepstone Group and Lexington Partners.
Ambienta, one of Europe’s largest sustainability-focused investors, plans to further drive Wateralia’s growth through international expansion, organic development as well as strategic acquisitions of smaller providers.
Wateralia is a global leader in designing and manufacturing water pumps for the integrated water cycle. The company was created in 2022 when two Italian producers in the industry, Caprari and Calpeda, were merged under the ownership of Ambienta Fund III. Both companies bring decades of expertise and innovation to the water management sector.
In just three years under Ambienta’s ownership, Wateralia’s EBITDA has grown sixfold and revenues have tripled, surpassing €300 million. The company now employs over 1,000 people, operates five manufacturing plants and serves clients in more than 140 countries.
Managing over €3 billion in assets, Ambienta focuses on investments driven by environmental trends. So far, the firm completed 76 private equity investments.
Ambienta says its success — in addition to strong financial returns — is also about making a measurable environmental impact. In 2023, Wateralia products, for example, helped clean enough water to supply seven million European households for a year and saved as much energy as 450,000 refrigerators use annually.
